President Droupadi Murmu to Review IMA Passing Out Parade with First Female Officer Cadets

President Droupadi Murmu is anticipated to oversee the Reviewing Officer duties for the forthcoming Passing Out Parade (PoP) at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun on June 13, 2026. The event promises to be a historic milestone for the academy.

This parade will herald the commissioning of the first batch of women officer cadets, an unprecedented occurrence since the IMA's inception in 1932. The groundbreaking group consists of eight female cadets who commenced their training in July 2025 and are now nearing its completion.

Army sources have indicated that President Murmu is likely to attend the ceremony as the Reviewing Officer, though this will depend on any potential last-minute changes to her schedule.

The commissioning of these female cadets marks a pivotal point for the esteemed Army training institution, which has been instrumental in the training of male officers for the Indian Army over the past 90 years.

Officials have stated that the final count of the passing-out course, including the women cadets, will be confirmed just prior to the parade.

This event is a significant step forward in integrating women into various sectors and leadership roles within the Armed Forces. The commissioning of women through the IMA demonstrates the Indian Army's ongoing commitment to broadening opportunities for women in military roles.

President Murmu follows a line of distinguished Indian Presidents who have reviewed the IMA Passing Out Parades, such as A P J Abdul Kalam in 2006, Pratibha Patil in 2011, and Ram Nath Kovind in 2021.

In December 2025, the previous Passing Out Parade saw the commissioning of 491 officer cadets into the Indian Army. This ceremony also included 34 cadets from allied foreign nations, highlighting the academy’s role in shaping future military leaders globally.

The parade on June 13 is poised to be a momentous occasion in the academy's history, representing both enduring traditions and significant change as it commissions its first female officers alongside their male peers.
