Praveen Kumar Takes Over as Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police

Senior Indian Police Service officer Praveen Kumar has officially assumed the role of Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP), following the retirement of Rahul Rasgotra. The transition took place at the ITBP Headquarters during a formal ceremony where the traditional leadership baton was passed, signifying a new era for the esteemed border security force.

Praveen Kumar, an IPS officer from the 1993 West Bengal cadre, brings extensive experience and strategic acumen to his new position, having served over 32 years in various capacities. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Special Director at the Intelligence Bureau, where he played a crucial role in enhancing the country’s internal security measures.

Throughout his distinguished career, Kumar has held several significant roles within the West Bengal Police and the Intelligence Bureau, contributing notably to national security and policing efforts.

In acknowledgment of his outstanding service and leadership, he has received numerous prestigious accolades including the Indian Police Medal (IPM), President’s Police Medal (PPM), Police (Special Duty) Medal, Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak, and Asaadharan Aasuchana Kushalata Padak.

As he takes charge of the ITBP, Praveen Kumar will guide the force, known as the “Himveers,” into a new phase of operational excellence.

The ITBP remains committed to securing India’s delicate Himalayan frontiers and maintaining readiness for high-altitude operations, continually embodying resilience, discipline, and dedication to the nation’s security.
