Peshawar: Deadly Assault on Frontier Constabulary Headquarters by Gunmen and Suicide Bombers
Gunmen executed a fatal attack on the Frontier Constabulary (FC) headquarters in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Monday. According to police and security officials, the assault involved at least two suicide bombers.
Preliminary reports reveal that at least three individuals have lost their lives in the attack on the FC complex, which is situated in a densely populated area near the city's military cantonment.
Two Suicide Bombers Breached the Compound
A senior security official, speaking anonymously to Reuters, disclosed that the attack commenced when the first suicide bomber detonated his explosive at the main entrance of the FC headquarters. The second bomber successfully infiltrated the compound before setting off another explosion.
Accompanying gunmen reportedly attempted to penetrate deeper into the complex, prompting a rapid response from Pakistani security forces.
Terrorists May Still Be Inside, Say Officials
“Law enforcement personnel, including the army and police, have cordoned off the area and are carefully handling the situation as we suspect there are some terrorists inside the headquarters,” the senior official stated.
The potential presence of additional attackers within the multi-building compound has necessitated an extended clearing operation.
Area Completely Sealed Off
Residents described chaotic scenes as security forces hurried to the location. “The road has been closed for traffic and cordoned off by the army, police, and security personnel,” local resident Safdar Khan told Reuters.
The vicinity of the FC headquarters remains sealed while counterterrorism units conduct thorough sweeps of the area.
Rising Security Concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The incident occurs amid an uptick in militant activities across Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where paramilitary forces have often been targeted by outlawed groups operating along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border.
The authorities have yet to attribute the attack to any specific group. Investigations continue, and officials are anticipated to disclose further details once the compound is entirely secured.
