Operation Chowkibal: Security Forces Uncover Significant Arms Cache in Kupwara
Security forces have achieved a significant breakthrough in north Kashmir's Kupwara district by seizing a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, thereby thwarting a potential terror plot near the Line of Control (LoC). This development was part of the successful Operation Chowkibal.
The operation was a coordinated effort involving the 160 Battalion of the Territorial Army, 5 PARA, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police from Police Station Kralpora. It was initiated based on intelligence provided by Military Intelligence and executed between July 27 and 28 in the Chowkibal region.
Authorities targeted the home of Wali Mohammad Mir, a resident of Marsary village in Chowkibal during the operation. The search yielded the following military-grade items:

| Three AK-56 magazines |
| Seventeen Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) grenades |
| More than 1,000 rounds of AK-series ammunition |
The discovery was hailed by security officials as a significant disruption to militant logistics and cross-border arms smuggling in a region long plagued by infiltration and terrorist activities.
A First Information Report (FIR No. 53/2025) has been filed at Police Station Kralpora under relevant provisions of the Arms Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.
A senior official emphasized the importance of the coordinated operation, noting that it successfully mitigated a dangerous security threat. The official stated, “Operation Chowkibal illustrates the strong collaboration between the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police. Ongoing investigations aim to trace the origin of the weapons and any connections to militant activities.”
Further searches and intelligence-driven operations are anticipated in the area to dismantle any remaining segments of the network involved in the storage and transportation of illegal arms.
