NSG IG Major General Mukesh Kumar Bhanwala Meets Omar Abdullah in Jammu
Major General Mukesh Kumar Bhanwala, Inspector General (Operations) of the National Security Guard (NSG), called on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu on November 3, 2026.
The meeting was disclosed in an official post by the Office of the Chief Minister, Jammu and Kashmir. Photographs shared with the post show Major General Bhanwala meeting the Chief Minister inside the Secretariat office and exchanging a memento. No details were made public on what was discussed during the courtesy call.
Major General Bhanwala is an Indian Army officer currently serving on deputation to the NSG, where he holds the key operational post of IG (Operations). In that role, he is responsible for planning and executing operational tasks for the force.
Before joining the NSG in this appointment, he commanded the 26 Infantry Division, also known as Tiger Division, in the Jammu region. During his tenure there, he oversaw flood relief and restoration work under Operation Rahat in 2025 and also visited veterans, including Honorary Captain Bana Singh, PVC. He handed over command of the division around early November 2025.
In July 2026, Major General Bhanwala had also called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Jammu as part of his official engagements in the Union Territory.

The NSG is India’s premier specialised counter-terrorism force under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Trained and equipped for high-risk operations, the force has previously been deployed in the Jammu region to assist local security agencies in periods of heightened threat perception.
The courtesy call comes at a time when government offices have shifted to Jammu with the resumption of the Darbar Move. The administration is also carrying out reviews related to development works and winter preparedness. Meetings between senior security officials and the elected leadership of the Union Territory are part of routine coordination on security-related matters.
