NCERT Introduces Operation Sindoor Modules: Educating Students on Anti-Terror Mission and National Unity

More than three months following Operation Sindoor, the National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) has released new educational modules to inform students about this military operation. For Classes 3–8, the module is titled “Operation Sindoor—A Saga of Valour,” while Classes 9–12 are presented with “Operation Sindoor—A Mission of Honour and Bravery.” These materials are designed to highlight India's strategic prowess and the courage of its armed forces.
The content details that although Pakistan officially denied any involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025—resulting in 26 casualties—the attack was orchestrated under “direct orders” from Pakistan’s military and political leaders. The operation was named Operation Sindoor to honor the widows of the victims, symbolizing empathy, respect, and solidarity.
Highlighting Bravery and Technology
The modules describe the coordinated strikes by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force on nine terrorist camps situated in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Targets included Sawai Nala, Syedna Bilal Camp, Gulpur, Barnala, Abbas, Sarjal, Mehmoona Joya, Bahawalpur, and Muridke. The Army dismantled seven camps, while the Air Force focused on Muridke and Bahawalpur, with the entire operation concluding in a swift 22 minutes, demonstrating operational precision.
Advanced air defense systems, such as the S-400, successfully intercepted enemy drones and aircraft, safeguarding Indian installations. The operation is characterized as a blend of military triumph, technological advancement, and a political statement, celebrated as “a triumph of bravery, strategy, and innovation.”
National Unity and Civil Response
The NCERT material also emphasizes the nationwide unity that followed: candlelight vigils occurred across the country, and various communities denounced the attacks. Muslim communities in cities like Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Bhopal wore black armbands in protest, and Kashmiri shopkeepers shuttered their businesses. Border village residents expressed support for the Armed Forces, challenging stereotypes and highlighting the peaceful sentiments of ordinary citizens.
International Recognition
The modules report the diplomatic achievements following Operation Sindoor. On July 18, 2025, the United States formally categorized the Resistance Front (TRF) as a foreign terrorist organization, while the UN Security Council demanded accountability for individuals involved in orchestrating terrorist acts.
Strategic and Cultural Significance
The title “Operation Sindoor” pays homage to the families who lost loved ones, drawing a connection to the cultural symbol of sindoor, which stands for marriage, love, and respect. The modules also highlight India’s focus on self-reliance, demonstrating how domestically produced defense systems facilitated the operation, in line with the Make in India initiative.
Educational Approach
These supplementary modules are designed to be interactive, structured as dialogues between teachers and students, and are a continuation of NCERT’s mission to offer students valuable perspectives on significant national issues. This initiative follows 16 previous modules centered on India’s history, defense, and national accomplishments.
By integrating Operation Sindoor into educational settings, NCERT seeks to foster a sense of national pride, raise awareness about India’s defense strengths, and promote the values of unity and resilience among students nationwide.
