Naval Commanders’ Conference 2026 Wraps Up in New Delhi with Focus on Maritime Security Strategy
The initial Naval Commanders’ Conference of 2026 wrapped up at Nausena Bhawan in New Delhi following four days of extensive discussions from April 14 to 17.
This top-tier conference of the Indian Navy served as a crucial forum to evaluate operational readiness, logistics, infrastructure, and human resource initiatives, while keeping a close watch on the changing landscape of maritime security.

During his opening address, Chief of the Naval Staff Dinesh K Tripathi brought attention to the growing complexity of maritime security, which he attributed to concurrent global conflicts, the rise of non-state actors, and a weakening rules-based international order. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high combat readiness and embracing emerging technologies to forge a future-ready naval force.
The Navy reiterated its dedication to protecting national interests in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) through proactive engagement with friendly foreign nations, participating in both bilateral and multilateral exercises, and enhancing maritime cooperation.

Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan addressed the commanders, underscoring the shifting geopolitical landscape and the necessity for preparedness in technology-driven and economically influenced warfare. The Union Home Secretary also emphasized the critical role of coordination between the Navy and paramilitary forces to bolster coastal security and counter transnational threats.
A significant aspect of the conference was the unveiling of the Indian Navy Maritime Security Strategy (INMSS-2026). This strategy sets forth the Navy’s plan for maritime domain security, strategic readiness for the coming decade, and the integration of disruptive technologies. It aligns with the broader Defence Vision 2047 and the Indian Navy Vision 2047, focusing on the country’s long-term security goals.
The event also hosted the Sagar Manthan Dialogue, a forum that gathered naval leaders and experts to exchange ideas on defence R&D reforms and to encourage increased industry participation in capability development.
The conference underscored the Indian Navy’s dedication to transforming into a modern, agile, and technology-driven force, designed to confront emerging maritime challenges in a swiftly evolving global security environment.
