Narayanpur Police, ITBP recover seven IEDs in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad during joint search operation

Narayanpur Police and the 29th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) recovered seven improvised explosive devices during a joint search and area-sanitisation operation in the Abujhmad region of Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, with the explosives destroyed on the spot by a bomb disposal team.

The recovery was made during an operation along the Maksoli–Bhatbeda–Rainar belt, which was launched from the Rainar camp. The search was supervised by Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Patel, ITBP 29th Battalion Commandant Abhishek Sood, and Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Akshay Sabdra. ETV Bharat has rendered the ASP’s surname as Sabadram.

According to officials, the search in the Bhatbeda area began on 5 October 2026. Personnel noticed suspicious objects during the operation, secured the location and then carried out a detailed combing of the surrounding area. From a suspected dump, they recovered six pressure-cooker IEDs and one pipe-bomb IED.

Along with the explosives, the team also seized material used in fabrication: one multimeter, one screwdriver, one soldering wire, one soldering iron and three vehicle-opening keys. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohan, destroyed the explosives at the site following prescribed safety protocols.

Officials said the recovery was the result of sustained vigilance and coordination between Narayanpur Police and the ITBP, which have been carrying out continuous searches in the forested belt. They said such operations remain necessary to strengthen security arrangements, protect the public and deny anti-national elements space to plant or store explosives in remote parts of Abujhmad. Residents have been asked to report any unusual activity to the nearest police or security post.

Abujhmad, spread largely across Narayanpur and adjoining districts, has long been regarded as a sensitive Left-Wing Extremism corridor. Pressure-cooker and pipe IEDs have repeatedly been recovered from hidden dumps in the region during joint police and ITBP operations. No arrest was reported in connection with the latest recovery.
