MoD Finalizes ₹449 Crore Deal for Indigenous GNSS Jammers to Enhance Indian Navy's Electronic Warfare
The Ministry of Defence has entered into a contract worth ₹449 crore with Accord Software and Systems Private Limited, a firm based in Bengaluru, to procure 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) Jammers for the Indian Navy.
The agreement, signed in New Delhi with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh present, signifies a strategic enhancement of the Navy's electronic warfare capabilities utilizing homegrown technology.
This procurement falls under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, requiring a minimum of 75 percent indigenous content. This move aligns with the government's focus on promoting self-sufficiency in defense production.
Enhancing Electronic Warfare Capabilities
The ECGNSS Jammers are engineered to interfere with the acquisition and tracking of satellite navigation signals by enemy Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers. These systems possess advanced signal spoofing and deceptive jamming abilities, allowing naval platforms to function efficiently in contested and electronically challenging situations.
Defense officials emphasize that the integration of these systems will substantially boost the operational safety, survivability, and mission effectiveness of Indian Navy warships amidst multi-threat scenarios by enhancing their capability to counter evolving electronic and navigation-based threats.
Strengthening Maritime Security
The acquisition aims to reinforce India's maritime security framework by equipping naval platforms with sophisticated tools to deny, disrupt, and mislead hostile navigation and positioning systems during missions.
