Mizoram Governor Highlights Integrity of Armed Forces' Examination Systems Amid NEET Paper Leak Controversy
Mizoram Governor General (Retd) V.K. Singh has emphasized that the armed forces maintain a secure and transparent system, preventing paper leaks in their recruitment examinations, unlike certain civilian competitive exams.
Speaking at the 'Sena Samvad' event organized by 'Uniform Unveiled' at the Manekshaw Centre on Saturday, Gen Singh addressed a large audience, including students from various schools in Delhi and surrounding areas. Bihar Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain was also present during the session.
The Governor's comments were in light of the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 exam, which was held on May 3 but annulled due to allegations of irregularities and a question paper leak. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested several individuals related to the case, and the National Testing Agency has rescheduled the exam for June 21.
Gen Singh pointed out that the armed forces also conduct competitive examinations for recruitment, highlighting that the military's institutional mechanisms ensure absolute integrity and prevent any potential compromises.
Gen Singh remarked, “A paper of NEET exam may get leaked, but in Army, paper leak doesn’t happen, and it doesn’t happen in the Air Force. We have devised systems which are absolutely fair. You can’t have a fairer system than that.”
He further stated, “It is a very fair system. You will not get anything fairer than this. And, everything is fair in the armed forces.”
Explaining the examination process in the armed forces, the Governor mentioned that answer sheets are appraised through a structured and impartial method. Each evaluator is tasked with assessing only one specific question across all candidates' papers. This approach eliminates subjectivity, ensures consistency, and maintains the highest standards of transparency and merit.
Beyond examination techniques, Gen Singh highlighted the lasting values that define the armed forces, stating that fairness, discipline, motivation, and a deep commitment to serving the nation are most consistently demonstrated within the military.
He also noted the foundational aspect of mutual trust between officers and soldiers. “A soldier knows that an officer won’t issue an order that he himself cannot do. And, an officer knows that no matter what situation comes, a jawan will never desert him. This is that trust which makes our armed forces, and helps the military move forward,” he commented.
The 'Sena Samvad' session was part of a day-long initiative aimed at engaging young audiences with the principles and operation of the armed forces. Gen Singh's address was focused on strengthening confidence in institutional integrity and encouraging the youth to appreciate the disciplined and merit-based culture prevalent in military institutions.
The Governor's speech was noted for clearly differentiating between the examination systems of the armed forces and those of some other competitive tests that have recently faced allegations of irregularities. His remarks highlighted the rigorous processes that, according to him, ensure fairness and credibility in military recruitment.
The event concluded with an acknowledgment of the structured frameworks that continue to uphold merit, discipline, and national service as core pillars of the armed forces.
