Military Nursing Service Marks 100 Years of Dedication at MH Dehradun Celebrations

The Military Nursing Service (MNS) Officers celebrated their 100th Raising Day on 3rd October 2025 at the Military Hospital in Dehradun. This significant milestone commemorated a century of dedicated service, compassion, and commitment to the healthcare of soldiers, veterans, and their families — a legacy that remains a crucial part of the Indian Armed Forces.

The ceremony was attended by prominent military leaders and dignitaries. Major General M.S. Gill, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Uttarakhand Sub Area, was the chief guest. He was accompanied by Major General Rohan Anand, SM, Additional Director General of Group Headquarters NCC; Brigadier Ram Singh Thapa, Deputy GOC, UKSA; Brigadier Parikshit Singh, Commandant of MH Dehradun; alongside senior officers and respected guests from the armed forces and medical community.

The event began with a ceremonial address outlining the illustrious history of the MNS since its establishment in 1925. Over the past century, MNS Officers have been instrumental not only in delivering medical care during both peace and wartime but also in advancing military medicine, disaster response, and humanitarian missions both within India and overseas.

In his address, Major General M.S. Gill praised the exceptional contributions of the Nursing Officers, recognising their unwavering commitment, compassion, and professional excellence. He highlighted that MNS Officers have been the backbone of medical services in the armed forces, providing vital care in field hospitals, counter-insurgency areas, and peacekeeping missions, all while maintaining the highest standards of medical ethics and dedication.

The GOC also acknowledged how the selfless service of MNS personnel bolsters the morale of troops and their families, significantly contributing to operational readiness and national security. He expressed appreciation for their sacrifices and relentless effort, often carried out in challenging environments and remote locations.

Since its inception, the Military Nursing Service has grown from a small group of nurses into a highly trained and professional force, equipped with advanced medical knowledge and field experience. MNS Officers have been at the forefront during wars, pandemics, and humanitarian crises, exemplifying courage, resilience, and care under fire.

As the MNS embarks on its second century, the commemorations at MH Dehradun not only paid tribute to its illustrious past but also reaffirmed its mission to continue delivering excellence in military healthcare and serving the nation with honour and dedication.
