CISF Integrates 22 Female Commandos into Quick Reaction Team for Enhanced Security at Delhi Metro
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has recently integrated 22 women personnel into its Quick Reaction Team (QRT) at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), enhancing its emergency response capabilities within one of India's busiest transit systems.
These newly joined commandos have been stationed at metro stations with a high number of female commuters, including Rajiv Chowk, Chandni Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Central Secretariat, Sarojini Nagar, and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus. After their induction, the personnel underwent specialized tactical and weapons training to ensure they are fully prepared for active duty, capable of addressing security challenges at their designated stations.
CISF’s Mandate and the Delhi Metro Security Framework
Tasked with safeguarding the Delhi Metro network, the CISF's responsibilities extend as part of a broader mission to protect critical infrastructure throughout India. Since taking over these duties from the Delhi Police on April 15, 2007, the CISF Unit Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has evolved into one of the force's largest units, implementing comprehensive security measures such as complete frisking of travelers and thorough baggage inspections across over 270 stations that accommodate millions of passengers daily.
The QRT is a pivotal element of this security framework, trained to rapidly respond to threats, emergencies, or disturbances, ensuring the safety of passengers and assets while coordinating with other agencies as needed.
Strategic Deployment and Operational Significance
Deploying women commandos at stations with substantial female commuter traffic highlights a strategic emphasis on operational sensitivity and passenger support. Female personnel are particularly effective in managing security procedures involving women passengers, addressing gender-specific issues, and providing assurance in crowded public settings. This strategy not only improves security efficacy but also positively influences public perception of safety measures.
This induction further supports the CISF's commitment to fostering a gender-inclusive and agile security force. By incorporating women into elite units like the QRT, the force underscores its dedication to maximizing diverse capabilities while upholding the highest standards of operational readiness.
Broader Context of Women’s Participation in CISF
This initiative is in line with broader efforts across the Central Armed Police Forces to enhance female representation in front-line and specialized roles. The CISF has progressively opened up more opportunities for women to participate in commando and tactical training programs, equipping them for challenging operational roles.
The presence of these 22 women commandos in the Delhi Metro QRT marks a significant milestone, reflecting the CISF's understanding that a diverse workforce enhances its capacity to protect critical public infrastructure and meet the demands of a modern, inclusive society.
The CISF remains focused on rigorous training, preparedness, and passenger-centric security practices to ensure the safety of the Delhi Metro, a crucial component of the National Capital Region’s daily life and economic vitality.
