Major Rajprasad RS Unveils India's First Fully Indigenous Multi-Utility Unmanned Ground Vehicle

India's efforts towards indigenisation and military automation have received a notable boost with the development of an advanced Multi Utility Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) by Major Rajprasad RS of the Corps of Engineers (7 Engineer Regiment). The UGV, dubbed "Sapperscout Ver 2.0," represents the officer's 12th innovation, with four previous systems already adopted by the Indian Army in the past two years.

Defence officials report that Sapperscout Ver 2.0 is India's first entirely in-house designed UGV intended for multi-role operational use. The vehicle is equipped with a range of capabilities, including mine detection, payload transport, reconnaissance and surveillance, vehicle-based mine dispersal, and casualty evacuation. Thanks to its modular construction, it can also accommodate various payloads like weapon systems and Counter-UAS (C-UAS) technology.

Featuring a 6-wheeled independent drive mechanism and articulated suspension, the UGV is designed to traverse diverse and challenging terrains efficiently. Sapperscout Ver 2.0 is further enhanced with environmental sensing and obstacle detection technology, facilitating safe and autonomous operations during intricate missions.

This innovation highlights the increasing role of Indian Army personnel in advancing defence technology and aligns with the military's strategic emphasis on indigenous, soldier-driven innovations to address future battlefield demands.
