Major General Vikas Choudhary Honored with Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for Notable Service
During an Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Major General Vikas Choudhary, YSM, serving as the Inspector General at the Training Academy of the National Security Guard (NSG), was honored with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India. This accolade was bestowed upon him in acknowledgement of his exceptional service to the nation.
The award highlights Maj Gen Choudhary's outstanding leadership and steadfast dedication to enhancing the operational capabilities of the NSG through superior training, institutional development, and capacity building. His leadership has been instrumental in bolstering the NSG Training Academy's focus on specialized counter-terrorism training and operational readiness, further solidifying the force's status as India's leading counter-terrorism unit.

The Director General of NSG extended congratulations to Maj Gen Choudhary on receiving this esteemed award and expressed best wishes for his continued outstanding service.
Maj Gen Choudhary began his military career in 1991 when he was commissioned into the 3rd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles from the Indian Military Academy. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy in Pune, he has had a distinguished career spanning over 30 years, serving in diverse operational regions such as Sikkim, Punjab, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and along the India-China border.
He has commanded the 3 Rajputana Rifles and has held several significant positions, including serving as Defence Attaché at the Indian Embassy in China and commanding a brigade in the North East. Following advanced military studies at the National Defence College, he was promoted to the rank of Major General and has since undertaken key leadership roles within the Indian Army and the National Security Guard.
Hailing from Sankhol village in Haryana's Jhajjar district, Maj Gen Choudhary comes from a family with a strong military tradition. His father, Colonel Krishna Choudhary, served in the Indian Army, while his brother is a retired Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force.
The award of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal serves as a testament to Maj Gen Vikas Choudhary's remarkable professionalism, leadership, and enduring contributions to strengthening India's national security and specialized counter-terrorism capabilities.
