Major General Amit Singh Sohal Takes Command at Prayagraj Military Station in Formal Ceremony
In a formal military ceremony at the New Military Station in Prayagraj, Maj Gen Amit Singh Sohal, VSM, assumed the role of General Officer Commanding for the Purva Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Sub Area. This event signifies a crucial leadership change within the Indian Army, emphasizing the strategic significance of this region.
Maj Gen Sohal, a senior officer from the Corps of Engineers, was commissioned in December 1990, and he brings extensive experience from a distinguished career.
His operational knowledge includes command roles in both the South Western and Eastern sectors, as well as international duty with the United Nations Mission in Lebanon. Since 1998, India has actively contributed to UN peacekeeping with over 650 personnel, including an infantry battalion group and a Level II Hospital.
The ceremony highlighted Maj Gen Sohal’s leadership qualities, which have been refined through his extensive service with the Corps of Engineers—a unit established after 1857 known for its engineering capabilities and combat readiness.
In his address to the troops, he stressed the importance of maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity, and dedication, while focusing on operational readiness, administrative efficiency, and veteran care throughout the region.
This leadership transition comes as Prayagraj's military significance is rising, exemplified by the historic Northern Command Investiture Ceremony in March 2024.
That event, conducted outside Udhampur for the first time, acknowledged acts of valor and underscored the region's importance in fortifying defenses along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) amid ongoing tensions. Maj Gen Sohal's appointment is expected to enhance these initiatives, ensuring continued excellence in the Indian Army's strategic endeavors.
