Maj Gen VT Mathew Concludes Esteemed Command of Karnataka & Kerala Sub Area After Four Decades of Service
Maj Gen VT Mathew, AVSM, YSM, who served as the General Officer Commanding of the Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area, has retired, relinquishing his command on February 28, 2026. His retirement marks the end of an exceptional military career that spanned nearly 40 years. Throughout his service, Maj Gen Mathew was recognized for his outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication, focusing on welfare and developmental initiatives within the region.
During his command, Maj Gen Mathew was instrumental in pushing forward numerous infrastructure and community projects designed to improve the welfare of service members, veterans, and their families. His proactive leadership significantly bolstered the outreach of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), thereby enhancing access to healthcare services for veterans across Karnataka and Kerala.
Known for advocating strong collaboration between the armed forces and civil administration, he played a key role in promoting Civil-Military Fusion initiatives in both states. These initiatives were crucial in enhancing cooperation during humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations, as well as in community engagement programs, thereby strengthening the Indian Army's connection with the civilian community.
