Maj Gen Mandeep Pal Singh Gill bids farewell to Uttarakhand Sub Area on superannuation

Headquarters Uttarakhand Sub Area has bid farewell to Major General Mandeep Pal Singh Gill, VSM, as he superannuated after more than four decades of distinguished service to the nation. The send-off marked the end of his tenure as General Officer Commanding, Uttarakhand Sub Area, a formation that has been closely associated with military preparedness, veteran welfare and civil-military engagement in the state.

The farewell came against the backdrop of a tenure during which Maj Gen Gill was associated with a range of initiatives focused on operational readiness, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) preparedness, infrastructure development and the modernisation of military heritage. According to the formation, these efforts were part of a broader push to strengthen both the operational and institutional profile of the Sub Area.

A key feature of his leadership, the formation said, was the deepening of ties between the Armed Forces and the civil administration and people of Uttarakhand. That relationship received public recognition when the formation was appreciated by the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand on 15 August 2026, reflecting the continued engagement between the military establishment and the state’s civil institutions.

As part of his farewell engagements, Maj Gen Gill paid homage at Shaurya Sthal, where he honoured the Bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. The visit formed a solemn part of the farewell and highlighted the military tradition of remembrance that remains central to such occasions.

He also visited the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), underscoring the enduring link between the Armed Forces and institutions that help shape future generations of military leadership. The visit reflected the long-standing association between military formations and educational institutions that prepare young cadets for service.

Maj Gen Mandeep Pal Singh Gill, VSM, leaves Uttarakhand Sub Area with a record described by the formation as one of professional excellence, integrity, dedicated service and strong attention to welfare and community outreach. His period in command is expected to remain part of the formation’s institutional memory.

Headquarters Uttarakhand Sub Area expressed gratitude for his distinguished service and extended best wishes to Maj Gen Gill and his family for a fulfilling and successful post-service journey.
