Major General J Muthukrishnan took on the role of Major General (Medical) at the Headquarters South-Western Command starting June 1, 2026. This appointment signifies an important addition to the senior ranks of the Armed Forces Medical Services.

Maj Gen Muthukrishnan, a graduate of the esteemed Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, is a renowned Endocrinologist with substantial experience in military healthcare, medical education, and hospital management.

During his distinguished career, he has occupied several key positions, such as the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at AFMC Pune and Colonel (Medical) at the Headquarters Strategic Forces Command. In these roles, he has made significant contributions to medical support and healthcare management in critical operational settings.

His contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic were notable, particularly in the planning and execution of medical management strategies at Base Hospital Delhi Cantonment, one of the primary healthcare facilities of the Armed Forces.

Before this appointment, Maj Gen Muthukrishnan served as the Commandant of Military Hospital Pathankot, where he played a crucial role in advancing patient care, medical readiness, and healthcare delivery.

Upon assuming his new responsibilities, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General of the Armed Forces Medical Services, offered her congratulations and best wishes, anticipating a successful tenure in his new position.

In his capacity as MG (Medical) at HQ South-Western Command, Maj Gen Muthukrishnan will oversee medical services, operational healthcare support, medical readiness, and the welfare of personnel throughout the Command.

His leadership in this role is anticipated to enhance the medical capabilities of the South Western Command, reinforcing the Armed Forces Medical Services' dedication to providing top-quality healthcare and operational support to soldiers and their families.
