Lt. Pratik Beniwal: From Political Heritage to Indian Army Officer
Lieutenant Pratik Beniwal has chosen a unique path, opting for a career in military service over the political legacy of his family. Having completed his training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai, he was commissioned into the Indian Army on March 7, 2026. Lt Beniwal comes from a well-known political family in Rajasthan. His father, Narayan Beniwal, served as an MLA for the Khinvsar constituency in the Nagaur district, securing the position after his brother moved to Parliament. His mother, Sumesh Beniwal, is part of the Rajasthan Administrative Service, currently working as a Cooperative Inspector in Nagaur.
The political heritage of the Beniwal family is significant. His uncle, Hanuman Beniwal, is the founder of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party and serves as the Member of Parliament for Nagaur, with four terms as an MLA. Lt Beniwal's grandfather, the late Ramdev Beniwal, also known as Ramdev Chaudhary, was twice elected as an MLA for the Mundwa constituency under the Janata Dal in 1977 and 1985. Despite this strong political background, Lt Beniwal has chosen to serve the nation in the armed forces.
His academic journey began in Nagaur where he studied until the eighth standard, after which he moved to Jaipur for higher education at St. Anselm School and then completed his degree at St. Xavier’s College. From a young age, Lt Beniwal was inclined towards service professions, particularly in the armed forces, while steering clear of traditional administrative roles.
With determination, he attempted the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination, securing an impressive 29th rank in CDS I 2024 on his first try. This achievement followed an unsuccessful attempt at a civil service examination, reinforcing his resolve to join the military. His success led to his admission to the prestigious Officers Training Academy in Chennai, where he underwent extensive training.
The Passing Out Parade on March 7, 2026, marked the end of his intensive training. During the ceremony, Lt Beniwal was commissioned as an officer in the Indian Army and received his lieutenant's stars. In a heartfelt gesture, he saluted his parents and placed his officer’s cap on his father's head, signifying the support he received from his family.
