Lt Gen VMB Krishnan Reviews Agniveer Training at Punjab Regimental Centre in Ramgarh
Ramgarh, Jharkhand, October 15, 2026: Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, visited the Punjab Regimental Centre at Ramgarh Cantonment on Wednesday and reviewed the ongoing training of Agniveers.
The Army Commander assessed the training activities underway at the regimental centre, which is responsible for preparing newly recruited soldiers for service in the Indian Army. During the visit, he appreciated the centre’s efforts in maintaining high standards of training and in shaping Agniveers to meet the operational requirements of the force.
The Punjab Regimental Centre at Ramgarh is among the key training establishments that provide foundational military instruction to recruits, including Agniveers. Its training curriculum covers physical fitness, discipline, weapon handling, fieldcraft and other essential military skills needed for service life.

The visit also highlighted the Army’s continued emphasis on developing soldiers who are professionally competent, physically fit and disciplined through structured military training programmes. Lt Gen Krishnan’s interaction with instructors and personnel served as recognition of the work being done at the centre to prepare the next generation of Indian Army soldiers.
In addition to reviewing training activities, the Army Commander appreciated the initiatives undertaken for the holistic development of Ramgarh Cantonment under the Trinity Area. These efforts, as noted in the visit, reflect the Army’s focus on strengthening military infrastructure, improving training facilities and maintaining a supportive environment for personnel and their families.
The Agnipath recruitment scheme, introduced in 2022, gives young men and women an opportunity to serve in the Indian Armed Forces as Agniveers for an initial period of four years. Training institutions such as the Punjab Regimental Centre play a central role in turning these recruits into trained soldiers capable of carrying out military responsibilities.

Lt Gen Krishnan’s visit reaffirmed the Eastern Command’s focus on training excellence, infrastructure development and the maintenance of professional standards across its establishments.
