Lt Gen V Sreehari Relinquishes Command of Dakshin Bharat Area on Superannuation

Lt Gen V Sreehari, AVSM, SC, SM, relinquished command of Headquarters Dakshin Bharat Area on August 31, 2026, on superannuation, closing a military career that spanned nearly four decades and included extensive operational, command, staff and instructional service.

As he stepped down from command, Lt Gen Sreehari paid homage to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the Victory War Memorial in Chennai. The gesture marked his final day in office and reflected the emphasis he placed during his tenure on military heritage and remembrance.

Commissioned into the 16 Sikh Light Infantry in June 1987, Lt Gen Sreehari later volunteered for the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), where he served in a range of appointments over the course of his career. A proud alumnus of Sainik School Amaravathi Nagar, he built his service record through varied assignments and sustained operational exposure.

His distinguished service earned him the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Shaurya Chakra and Sena Medal. Together, the honours reflect both his professional performance and the personal courage associated with his long years in uniform.

During his tenure as General Officer Commanding Dakshin Bharat Area, he focused heavily on strengthening civil-military relations and widening public engagement with the Armed Forces. His priorities included civil-military fusion, public outreach, military heritage, youth engagement, veteran welfare and operational preparedness.

One of the more visible initiatives under his leadership was at the Victory War Memorial in Chennai, which saw renewed public engagement. A Light and Sound Show with Tamil subtitles was introduced to make the story of the armed forces’ sacrifices and military heritage more accessible to local citizens, especially younger audiences.

His command also placed greater emphasis on connecting the Armed Forces with youth and the wider community, while deepening engagement with veterans and their families. These efforts formed part of a broader approach that combined outreach with readiness and institutional strengthening.

The Dakshin Bharat Area family paid tribute to Lt Gen Sreehari’s service, describing his career as one defined by leadership, commitment and a sustained effort to strengthen the Army’s relationship with civil society.

With his superannuation, Lt Gen V Sreehari leaves behind a record of professional excellence, operational commitment and people-centric leadership. His nearly four decades of service culminate in a distinguished career in the Indian Army and for the nation.
