Lt Gen RC Tiwari Assesses Operational Readiness and Drone Integration in Manipur

Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, the Commander of the Eastern Command, recently conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the operational capabilities of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles units in Manipur. This assessment placed a significant emphasis on the integration of drone technology into field operations.

During his visit to the Chandel district and Andro, Lt Gen Tiwari underscored the Army’s focus on technology-driven surveillance and counter-insurgency strategies. At Chandel, he inspected the Drone Training Node, where the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is being leveraged to enhance real-time intelligence and secure borders. This facility recently played a crucial role in successful operations, notably the apprehension of two militants near the Indo-Myanmar border on June 20.

In Andro, Lt Gen Tiwari met with troops, commending their high morale and professionalism. He stressed the necessity of maintaining vigilance and fostering innovation to confront security challenges in Manipur. The state has been troubled by ongoing ethnic violence since May 2023, resulting in over 200 fatalities and significant displacement.
The Army's focus on drone technology aligns with a global shift in military operations. According to a study by RAND Corporation, the deployment of UAVs has led to a 40% increase in efficiency during tactical missions. Indian defense analysts assert that such technological advancements are critical in sensitive areas such as the Myanmar border.

Lt Gen Tiwari’s evaluation reaffirms the Indian Army’s dedication to modernization and the maintenance of peace in the Northeast, a region of strategic significance to India.
