Lt Gen Rajiv K Sahni Evaluates Technological Advancements and Innovation at Southern Command and Pune Defence Units

Lt Gen Rajiv K Sahni, AVSM, VSM, PhD, who serves as the Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) and Colonel Commandant, visited Pune to assess various military and industrial sites. His itinerary included Headquarters Southern Command, EME units, the Artificial Limb Centre, and key defense industries.

Throughout his visit, Lt Gen Sahni evaluated the progress of operational and technical projects at EME facilities and engaged with personnel involved in equipment upkeep, innovation, and the development of indigenous capabilities. He expressed his approval for the Southern Command's EME units, highlighting their effective maintenance and sustainment efforts that ensure the high reliability of mission-critical combat equipment.

Lt Gen Sahni commended the establishment of a robust in-house system for mass-producing drones within Southern Command. He regarded this as a vital advancement toward increased operational readiness and lesser reliance on external suppliers. He also praised the innovative spirit of EME personnel in integrating new technologies to address battlefield needs.

The Director General acknowledged the swift incorporation of additive manufacturing, robotics, and cobotics into the daily operations of Southern Command. He pointed out that these technologies are revolutionizing maintenance, repair, and production processes, aligning with the Indian Army's efforts toward technological independence and modernization.
