Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar Reviews Indian Army Armoured Regiments in Eastern Ladakh

Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar, AVSM, VSM, Army Commander, Southern Command, visited Armoured Regiments of the Indian Army deployed in Eastern Ladakh in his capacity as the Colonel of the Regiment, reviewing their operational preparedness, professional standards and progress in adopting new capabilities for high-altitude deployment.

The visit centred on how the armoured formations are sustaining a high level of readiness in one of the most demanding operational environments on the Loac. Eastern Ladakh’s terrain and climate place unusual pressure on troops and equipment alike, and the Army Commander assessed how the regiments are maintaining effectiveness while coping with those conditions.

During the review, Lt Gen Pushkar examined the formations’ ability to remain operationally ready despite the challenges posed by rugged terrain and extreme weather. He was also briefed on the measures being taken to strengthen capabilities and adjust to the changing character of warfare.

A major theme of the interaction was the increasingly important role of technology in the Armoured Regiments. The Army Commander appreciated the emphasis on modernisation and the adoption of newer technologies intended to improve battlefield effectiveness and meet emerging operational requirements.

Eastern Ladakh continues to pose unique military challenges that demand sustained preparedness, resilience, mobility and adaptability. The visit offered an opportunity to see how the Armoured Regiments are balancing those requirements while continuing to deliver operational capability in a difficult sector.

Lt Gen Pushkar also interacted with officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and troops during the visit. His engagement with the personnel was marked by encouragement and a focus on the values of professionalism, discipline and dedication to duty.

He motivated all ranks to continue maintaining high standards of operational readiness and to remain committed to capability enhancement and technology absorption. As Colonel of the Regiment, he also highlighted the importance of preserving the traditions, ethos and legacy of the Armoured Corps while preparing for the demands of future warfare.

The visit reflected the Indian Army’s wider approach of combining operational experience with technological advancement and professional excellence to keep its armoured formations agile, capable and mission-ready in difficult operational environments.
