Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar Assesses Operational Readiness of Kharga Corps with Focus on Technological Integration

Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar, AVSM, VSM, currently serving as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Kharga Corps, conducted an extensive evaluation of the operational preparedness of both the Ram Division and Pine Gunners on Monday. This high-level assessment highlighted the units' exemplary performance during Operation Raahat, a pivotal humanitarian mission in 2015, where the Indian Army successfully facilitated the evacuation of over 4,640 Indians and 960 foreign nationals from Yemen amidst a civil conflict.

Lt Gen Pushkar commended the troops for their ongoing integration of advanced technologies and their sustained state of high operational readiness.

The review emphasized the Kharga Corps' progressive capabilities with a significant focus on the "Infusion of Technology." This initiative is in line with recent military advancements, which include the deployment of AI-driven drones and advanced surveillance systems into the Indian Army's operational framework, as demonstrated by the successful Kharga Shakti exercise in Rajasthan in 2024.

During this exercise, the Corps' combat readiness was assessed through live firing drills, strategic tactical movements, and coordinated air support missions, proving the effectiveness of integrated arms operations under simulated battlefield conditions.

The Kharga Corps, an essential part of India's defense strategy, was founded on October 7, 1971, by Lt Gen T N Raina in Krishna Nagar, West Bengal. Originally stationed in the Eastern Theatre, the Corps was later moved to the Western Theatre post-war, initially to Chandimandir Cantonment and ultimately to its current location in Ambala in January 1985.

Renowned for its offensive prowess, the Corps includes major units such as the 1 Armoured Division, 14 Infantry Division (RAPID), 22 Infantry Division, 40 Artillery Division, and several independent brigades. Under the leadership of Lt Gen Pushkar, the Corps continues to reinforce its status as a formidable force on the Western Front, embodying the Indian Army's dedication to modern warfare and national security.

Lt Gen Pushkar's distinguished career, which includes serving as Director General of the Territorial Army and his academic background from the National Defence College, offers a distinctive blend of strategic and administrative skills. His leadership approach contrasts with traditional tracks focusing on field command, highlighting a comprehensive strategy towards military readiness and technological advancement.

The commendation from the GOC underscores the Kharga Corps' critical role in India's military strength, preparing it to face future challenges with exceptional readiness.
