Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar Lauds Western Command for Successful Operation Against JeM Terrorist in Kathua

Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, the Army Commander of the Western Command, made a visit to the Bani–Macchedi Sector located in the Kathua district to assess the security situation and to recognize the efforts of troops involved in a recent counter-terrorism operation.

During his visit, Lieutenant General Katiyar extended his congratulations to Sepoy XXX of the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment. The sepoy was lauded for his bravery in a close-quarter battle where he successfully eliminated a notorious terrorist from the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group, showcasing remarkable courage despite the risk to his own life. The Army Commander also commended the entire team for their persistent efforts over several days, culminating in the precise execution of the operation.

The terrorist, identified as Usman, was neutralized by the Indian Army on January 23, 2026, at approximately 5 pm in Parhetar, Kathua district. This outcome was the result of continuous operations guided by intelligence.

During the visit, the Brigade Commander provided a briefing to the Army Commander on strategies for sustained control of the area. These plans include increased surveillance, proactive operations, and steps to obstruct any further terrorist activities.

Lieutenant General Katiyar stressed the critical need for heightened vigilance and an assertive stance against terrorism, along with seamless coordination. He reaffirmed the Western Command's commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region through decisive and professional military actions.
