Lt Gen Manoj Katiyar Evaluates Rising Star Corps' Advanced Readiness and Technological Advancements in Punjab

Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army's Western Command, conducted a comprehensive operational assessment of the Rising Star Corps formations in Punjab, showcasing a strong focus on modernization and readiness. This review emphasized the command's readiness and its growing reliance on advanced technologies to address new threats along the Western Front.
During his visit, Lt Gen Katiyar commended the troops for their exemplary combat readiness and professionalism. He highlighted the importance of integrating technological advancements to maintain an edge on modern battlefields. The review included demonstrations of cutting-edge weaponry, featuring next-generation anti-drone systems and precision artillery platforms.

A notable aspect of the review was the deployment of drone swarms, a concept initially tested during the 2019 Exercise Him Vijay. This exercise confirmed the effectiveness of Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs), which have drastically reduced the army's tactical response time from 72 hours to under 24 hours.
The Western Command's readiness measures align with the Indian Army's Decade of Transformation (2023–2032). This strategic plan, supported by the Ministry of Defence, designates 2023 as the Year of Technology Absorption and 2025 as the Year of Reforms. The initiative aims to decrease reliance on foreign military systems by enhancing indigenous technological capabilities through efforts like the Inno-Yoddha competition, fostering collaboration with academia, startups, and research institutions to promote defense innovation.

Assuming command in July 2023, Lt Gen Katiyar brings over 37 years of operational experience, including key roles in Siachen and the Line of Actual Control. His leadership continues the strategic legacy of the Western Command, which was re-established post-Partition in 1947.
The recent operational review not only highlighted advancements in firepower and surveillance but also boosted troop morale. As the Indian Army progresses towards becoming a future-ready force, the Western Command remains at the forefront of innovation and strategic preparedness.
