Lt Gen JS Sidana Visits Bhopal's 3 EME Centre, Emphasizes Technological Advancements and Army Modernization

In a significant effort to enhance the technological and operational capabilities of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General JS Sidana, AVSM, who serves as the Director General of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) and Senior Colonel Commandant, visited the 3 Electronics and Mechanical Engineers Centre in Bhopal on Tuesday.
With 38 years of notable service and as an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Lt Gen Sidana emphasized the critical role of innovation and adaptability in contemporary warfare. He lauded the Centre's high standards in training and administration, praising the professionalism demonstrated by both soldiers and Agniveers.

During his interaction with Agniveers, who were recruited under the 2022 Agnipath Scheme, the Army's senior EME officer engaged with them comprehensively. The scheme includes 24 weeks of intensive training, followed by integration of a select number of Agniveers into the regular Army after a four-year tenure. Lt Gen Sidana stated that the initiative signifies the Army’s progressive and data-driven approach towards modernizing its manpower.

The visit featured a ceremonial wreath-laying and technical demonstrations, which included advancements in drone technology. These activities are in line with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, contributing to a 25% rise in the adoption of indigenous defence technologies since 2020.

Emphasizing the evolution of the Corps of EME from its initial electrical focus in the 1980s to its current leadership role in electronics and innovation, Lt Gen Sidana encouraged all personnel to maintain the Corps’ esteemed legacy of excellence.
The visit reinforced the Indian Army’s dedication to future readiness, technological innovation, and self-reliance, as it responds to the challenges posed by a rapidly changing security landscape.
