Lt Gen IS Panjrath Assumes Charge as Director General of Army Air Defence

Lieutenant General IS Panjrath, SM, VSM, took over as Director General of Army Air Defence on September 1, 2026, assuming charge of the specialised Indian Army arm tasked with strengthening and sustaining the force’s air defence capabilities.

Shortly after taking over, Lt Gen Panjrath visited the National War Memorial in New Delhi and laid a wreath to pay homage to the Bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. The ceremony marked the start of his tenure and reflected the Army’s long-standing tradition of remembering and honouring personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

As Director General of Army Air Defence, Lt Gen Panjrath will be responsible for overseeing the operational and capability requirements of the arm, with a particular focus on maintaining a high state of preparedness against evolving aerial threats. His role comes at a time when the character of warfare is changing rapidly, with unmanned aerial systems, precision weapons and other airborne threats becoming increasingly prominent on the battlefield.
