Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth Takes Command as 25th Colonel of Historic 61st Cavalry Regiment in Jaipur

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, currently serving as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, visited the 61st Cavalry Regiment in Jaipur today. During his visit, he formally assumed his new role as the 25th Colonel of the Regiment. This event underscored the historical and operational importance of the 61st Cavalry, recognized as one of the last horse-mounted cavalry units globally, which was established in 1953 through the merger of various princely state forces.

In his visit, Lt Gen Seth evaluated the regiment’s operational readiness and lauded its historical legacy, ceremonial prowess, and contribution to national honor. Based in Jaipur, the 61st Cavalry is not only known for its traditional mounted duties but also plays a significant role in promoting equestrian sports in India. The unit has been pivotal in developing top-level riders, including facilitating Anush Agarwalla's landmark Olympic debut in dressage on July 31, 2024.

Lt Gen Seth, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy with substantial expertise in armored warfare, commended the regiment for its dedication to valor, discipline, and professionalism. His itinerary included a ceremonial salute, inspection of training facilities, and interactions with the troops, reinforcing their commitment to both historical traditions and modern operational requirements.
