Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth Oversees Successful Surgical Eye Camp at Military Hospital Bhuj, Enhances Vision for Hundreds in Kutch

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, holding the ranks of PVSM, UYSM, and AVSM, and serving as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, paid a visit to a Surgical Eye Camp at the Military Hospital Bhuj. This event was conducted with the expertise of a specialized team of ophthalmologists and medical staff from the Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in New Delhi.

The medical team was headed by Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra, a distinguished military surgeon with accolades including PVSM, AVSM, SM*, and VSM*. He is recognized nationally for completing over one lakh successful surgical procedures. Under his guidance, the team executed advanced ophthalmic surgeries with outstanding professionalism and precision.

As part of the Indian Army's ongoing medical outreach in remote and border regions, the camp achieved significant results by performing advanced cataract surgeries, restoring vision to more than 200 veterans, their dependents, and local residents from the secluded areas of the Kutch district in just three days. Additionally, over 2,500 individuals benefited from free and thorough ophthalmic screenings, which facilitated early diagnosis and timely treatment of various eye conditions.

This initiative underscores the Indian Army's unwavering dedication to the well-being of veterans and community health care, especially in geographically isolated and strategically vital regions. By providing cutting-edge diagnostic and surgical services to border populations, the Army has considerably improved access to quality healthcare, mitigating the challenges of long travel distances and limited medical resources.

During his visit, Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth engaged with veterans and patients who received care at the camp, praising the medical teams for their dedication, expertise, and empathy. He emphasized the importance of such targeted medical efforts in enhancing the quality of life for veterans and local citizens, while fostering trust and cooperation between the Army and frontier communities. The Army Commander assured that the Indian Army would continue to implement similar welfare-focused medical programs in border areas.

Guided by the enduring principle of “Service Before Self,” the Indian Army remains committed to supporting both veterans and civilian populations, strengthening its strong connection with the people, and contributing to inclusive development and humanitarian efforts in the nation's frontier regions.
