Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth Commemorates 250th Anniversary of 16th Light Cavalry Regiment
On the 250th Raising Day of the 16th Light Cavalry, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, made a significant visit. This occasion marked a tribute to the distinguished history of the oldest armoured regiment in the Indian Army, which became the first Indianised regiment in 1922.

The regiment's illustrious combat history underscores its offensive prowess and unwavering professionalism. During the 1965 war, it captured Gadgor, earning the Theatre Honour Punjab. Its significant armoured maneuver through the Shakargarh Bulge in the 1971 war further highlighted its capabilities. Remarkably, it remains the only armoured regiment to have participated in the Kargil conflict during Operation Vijay in 1999, assisting in the capture of Tololing in challenging high-altitude conditions.

Lt Gen Seth's visit included a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial to honor the regiment's fallen heroes and a review of the Mounted Parade. He took the opportunity to meet with veterans and their families, recognizing their lasting contributions to maintaining the regiment’s ethos and fostering the spirit of service across generations.

In his address to all ranks, the Army Commander urged them to continue to excel professionally and remain operationally adaptable, while also emphasizing the importance of embracing technological advancements to counter evolving threats. He stressed the significance of upholding the regiment’s traditional values of valor, discipline, and duty in their ongoing service to the nation.
