Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth Attends Closing of 43rd Senior National Rowing Championship in Pune

The 43rd Senior National Rowing Championship of 2026 reached its conclusion with a grand ceremony at the Army Rowing Node (ARN) in Pune, organized under the Mission Olympics Wing of the College of Military Engineering (CME). This event marked another significant chapter in the progression of rowing in India and contributed to the nation's overall sports growth.

Distinguished guests, including Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, attended the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. The event also welcomed senior Indian Army officials and notable civil dignitaries, such as the President of the Rowing Federation of India, emphasizing the championship's national significance.

The championship saw enthusiastic participation from various State and Services teams, reflecting the increasing depth and competitiveness within Indian rowing. A highlight of the event was the Para Single Scull competition, which demonstrated remarkable resilience and inclusivity, showcasing athletes competing at the highest level regardless of physical challenges.

In terms of overall results, the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) emerged victorious, securing the top position, while the Army Sports Control Board (ASCB) finished in second place, reaffirming the dominance of Services in the realm of competitive rowing.

The Army Commander, in his address to the attendees, praised ARN and CME for their excellent organization and seamless management of the championship. He reiterated the Indian Army's steadfast dedication to developing world-class athletes and fostering an environment conducive to achieving excellence in both national and international sports arenas.

The successful completion of the championship once again underscored the pivotal role of the Indian Army in enhancing India's sporting culture and boosting Olympic aspirations through ongoing investment in infrastructure, training, and nurturing talent.
