Lt Gen AVS Rathee Assesses Readiness and Modern Training at Dhrangadhra Military Station
Lieutenant General AVS Rathee, serving as the General Officer Commanding of the Konark Corps, conducted an inspection of the Dhrangadhra Military Station to evaluate the unit's operational readiness, troop morale, and future training plans. This visit highlights the Indian Army's dedication to maintaining high standards in a strategically vital desert area within the Southern Command.
Lt Gen Rathee commended the troops for their readiness and ability to adapt to new operational challenges. Since its inception in 1987, the Konark Corps, also known as the Desert Corps, has been pivotal in protecting India's western frontiers. Based in Jodhpur, the corps takes its emblem from the Konark Sun Temple, representing its strength in harsh desert conditions.
The review aligns with previous high-level evaluations, such as those conducted by Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, emphasizing the Army's commitment to advanced training in challenging terrains. According to a 2020 RAND Corporation report, rigorous training and equipment upkeep can boost military readiness by up to 30% in such environments, a standard the Konark Corps is attaining.
Situated in Gujarat's Surendranagar district, the Dhrangadhra Military Station is a historic site with rich military and cultural significance. The term "Dhrangadhra" is derived from dhunge dhara or dhingi dhara, which means "stable land."
During his visit, Lt Gen Rathee engaged with commanders and soldiers, stressing the importance of innovative training and technological integration to address evolving threats. His interactions underscored the Southern Command's commitment to sustaining preparedness in India's western desert region.
The assessment is also connected to ongoing initiatives, such as Operation Sindoor, which continues to influence India's strategic stance in the area.
