Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta Opens 'Voice of Spiti' Community Radio Station in Himachal Pradesh

“From Spiti, for Spiti.” In a noteworthy effort to empower border communities, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Surya Command, officially launched a new Community Radio Station named ‘Voice of Spiti’ at Giu/Gue in Himachal Pradesh on 2 October 2025. This initiative represents the second community radio station set up by the Indian Army in the state's border regions, reinforcing its dedication to the socio-cultural growth of the area.

The inauguration event saw the presence of the Army Commander along with Mrs. Ruchira Sengupta, Regional President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA). They engaged with local residents, reiterating the Indian Army’s steadfast commitment to the development, empowerment, and welfare of inhabitants in these remote, high-altitude areas.

‘Voice of Spiti,’ a distinctive initiative by the Indian Army, is designed as a grassroots communication channel for the local population. It is set to air local news, cultural programs, educational content, healthcare awareness, and essential public information. This station will serve as a pivotal medium to link isolated communities, conserve local heritage, and foster participatory development.

The launch of the station highlights the Army’s ongoing efforts to enhance civil-military cooperation, improve information access in remote border communities, and strengthen the emotional ties between the armed forces and the residents of Spiti Valley. Through such endeavors, the Indian Army remains committed to standing alongside citizens, ensuring that even the most remote border regions stay connected, informed, and empowered.
