Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta Applauds Military Hospital Namkum for Outstanding Military Healthcare Contributions
On July 21, 2025, Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, paid a visit to the Military Hospital Namkum in Ranchi. The purpose of the visit was to commend the hospital for its exemplary patient care and contributions to military healthcare services.
Throughout his visit, Lt Gen Sengupta praised the hospital staff for their professionalism and steadfast dedication to the principles of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). He underlined the significance of high-quality healthcare within the defense sector and stressed the vital role that military hospitals play in ensuring the health and welfare of soldiers and their families.
During the event, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief presented the prestigious GOC-in-C Commendation Card to two individuals in recognition of their outstanding dedication and service. This accolade, as detailed in Army Order 54/77, honors acts of gallantry, distinguished service, or dedication to duty that do not meet the criteria for higher gallantry awards.
The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), a tri-service organization, provides healthcare to over 1.4 million active military personnel, their dependents, and veterans. It also utilizes civilian medical expertise, with postgraduate-trained doctors from institutions like the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune serving mandatory five-year tenures to bolster the system.
Since taking over as the head of the Central Command on July 1, 2024, Lt Gen Sengupta has held several significant positions, including leading the Fire and Fury Corps in Leh and serving as Chief of Staff of the Northern Command. His visit to the Military Hospital Namkum underscores the Indian Army's ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and acknowledging excellence within its ranks.
