Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar to Lead Indian Army as New Director General of Military Operations
Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, currently serving as the General Officer Commanding of the Dimapur-based Spear Corps, is poised to take over as the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army, marking a notable change in leadership.
Lt Gen Pendharkar will be taking the reins from Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, who has transitioned to the role of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy). This change signifies a significant shift within the senior ranks of the Army.
The position of DGMO holds significant importance as it involves overseeing military operations, planning, and coordination throughout the Indian Army. The role also encompasses ensuring operational readiness and crafting strategic responses, particularly along the nation's borders.
Lt Gen Pendharkar's extensive operational experience, especially as the commander of the Spear Corps—a critical formation in the Northeast—equips him with valuable insights in counter-insurgency operations and strategic planning for his new role.
This appointment is anticipated to enhance the Indian Army's operational capabilities and strategic planning, particularly in light of the ever-evolving security landscape.
