Lieutenant Colonel in Himachal Faces Charges for Forgery and Unlicensed Firearm

A Lieutenant Colonel who was previously stationed at Dagshai Cantonment in Himachal Pradesh is facing legal action by the Dharampur police over allegations of possessing forged identity papers and an unlicensed firearm. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed on July 6, following a report from a junior commissioned officer from the same military base.

The officer is charged with cheating, forgery, and illegal possession of a weapon under Section 25 of the Arms Act. According to the complaint, on August 23, 2023, during a routine inspection, army officials at Dagshai discovered a 12-bore gun and several suspicious documents in the officer's custody. Among these documents were a driving licence, Aadhaar card, and PAN card, all bearing his photograph but purportedly issued under a different name.

An army-led court of inquiry later found that the Lieutenant Colonel had fabricated multiple sets of false documents using the name "Mustafa," while retaining his own photograph. This duplication of identity documents has raised significant concerns regarding impersonation, misuse of official privileges, and potential security threats.

The local police are working closely with military authorities to further their investigation, with additional actions anticipated following the forensic analysis of the seized documents and firearm.
