Lieutenant Ch Enoni: From Manipur Village to Indian Army Officer
A young woman from Ralunamei village in Manipur, Ch Enoni, has achieved her aspiration of joining the Indian Army as an officer.
Enoni was commissioned after completing her training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai. The event was celebrated during the Passing Out Parade (POP) on Saturday, bringing pride to both her family and her state, which has been affected by conflict.
Her ambition to join the Army was sparked during her school years when the National Cadet Corps (NCC) opened its doors to girls. Initially involved with the NCC in her hometown, she later advanced to the senior wing in Delhi, which solidified her desire to serve in the Army.
The parade held on Saturday at the Parmeshwaran Drill Square marked the end of 11 months of rigorous training. A total of 161 gentleman cadets and 36 women cadets from India, as well as cadets from allied foreign nations, received their commission.
General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff, who supervised the parade, commended the dedication of the cadets. He emphasized that serving the nation transcends gender, stating, "Gender had no boundaries when it came to serving the nation. The profession of soldiering was not just a career but a dedication that went far beyond the uniform."
Enoni’s accomplishment is particularly significant as it comes amid ongoing ethnic conflicts in Manipur since May, which have resulted in over 180 deaths and the displacement of thousands. Her achievement sends a message of hope and resilience, encouraging the youth of the Northeast to consider careers in the Armed Forces.
