Lieutenant Amit Singh Passes Away During Commando Training in Karnataka

Lieutenant Amit Singh, who was commissioned into the Madras Regiment and had graduated from the 145th course at the National Defence Academy (NDA), has died during commando training at the Commando School in Belagavi, Karnataka.

Reports on social media suggest the incident took place at the Commando Wing in Nanawadi, Belagavi. Singh experienced sudden discomfort while swimming in the facility's pool and collapsed. Despite swift medical intervention, he could not be revived.

The Commando School in Belagavi, previously known as Belgaum, is recognized as one of the Indian Army's most prestigious and physically challenging training centers. Positioned within what is often referred to as the "Cradle of Infantry," the school forms part of the Junior Leaders Wing of the Infantry School and plays a pivotal role in preparing India’s elite battlefield commandos.

Singh was from Haryana, reportedly from Jhajjar, and his passing has prompted widespread condolences from military and veteran communities on social media. He was associated with the NDA 145th course.

Tributes have underscored his commitment and the significant loss to his family, his unit, and the armed forces. Messages from accounts dedicated to celebrating armed forces personnel and alumni highlight the sacrifices made for national security, using phrases like "Freedom is not free" and "a few pay the cost of war." Prayers have been offered for strength and comfort for his grieving family, reflecting on the profound and irreparable nature of their loss.
