Ladakh Students Visit Indian Military Academy in Dehradun Under Operation Sadbhavna

Dehradun, October 13, 2026: A group of students from Durbuk in Ladakh visited the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun under the Indian Army’s Operation Sadbhavna initiative, receiving a close look at one of the country’s premier military training institutions and the values that shape future Army officers.

The educational visit was organised as part of the Army’s wider outreach efforts in remote border regions, where it aims to connect young people with national institutions and broaden their exposure to opportunities beyond their home areas.

At the academy, the students were introduced to IMA’s distinguished history, its military traditions and the principles that guide the training of Gentlemen Cadets who go on to become commissioned officers in the Indian Army. The visit also highlighted the academy’s role in preparing officers for a life of service built around courage, integrity and professionalism.

For the students, the experience was intended to be more than a ceremonial tour. It offered a practical introduction to the importance of discipline, teamwork, leadership and selfless service, values that are central to military life and closely associated with the institution.

Durbuk, in eastern Ladakh, is a remote region where such exposure visits are seen as valuable in helping students understand institutions that symbolise national service and leadership development. The Army said the visit gave the young visitors a chance to experience an environment that reflects its commitment to excellence and nation-building.

Operation Sadbhavna, under which the visit was conducted, is the Indian Army’s welfare and outreach programme for communities in remote and border areas. It includes educational assistance, healthcare initiatives, infrastructure development and youth empowerment activities, all aimed at strengthening the Army’s engagement with local populations.

Through such educational tours, the initiative seeks to widen the horizons of young students, encourage their aspirations and deepen their connection with the country’s institutions and opportunities. The Army also uses these visits to inspire students from border regions to consider careers in the Armed Forces and other areas of public service.

In describing the visit, the Indian Army said it was an opportunity where young dreams meet the spirit of service, creating a sense of national pride and shared aspiration while building stronger ties with the nation.

The Army said such initiatives reflect its continued commitment to the development and empowerment of young people in Ladakh while helping them understand the opportunities available beyond their immediate surroundings.

The visit concluded as a memorable educational experience for the students, leaving them with insights into the Indian Army’s traditions and values and encouraging them to pursue their ambitions with determination, discipline and responsibility.
