Kerala Army Nursing Assistant Mysteriously Reappears After 24-Day Disappearance With Memory Loss

Farzeen Gafoor, a 28-year-old nursing assistant from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, resurfaced mysteriously at home after being missing for 24 days. On Saturday night, he was found standing by himself near his residence in Guruvayoor, appearing confused with no memory of his whereabouts or how he returned.
His father, Gafoor, who had come back from Muscat upon hearing of his son's disappearance, was the first to see Farzeen. "He was just standing by the roadside in casual attire, without any belongings or identification. Although he recognized me, he couldn't recall anything from the past few weeks," Gafoor stated.
Farzeen's disappearance occurred while he was traveling to Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, for a three-month training course at the Military Hospital. He departed Pune on July 9 and took a train from Mumbai the following day. His last communication was a phone call to his wife, Zareena, during which he mentioned feeling tired and intending to sleep. The next morning, his phone briefly registered a signal near Izzatnagar railway station before it was turned off.
Upon his return, Farzeen showed no physical injuries but seemed mentally detached. "He doesn't speak coherently and provides disjointed responses. A doctor has prescribed medication, and we're considering taking him to a military hospital," Gafoor explained.
The family had initially reported him missing to the Guruvayoor police under Section 57 of the Kerala Police Act, 2011. The case was subsequently transferred to the Izzatnagar police in Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have been notified of his return and will manage further legal processes.
Farzeen joined the Army five years ago while studying for a Biochemistry degree. He is married to Zareena, a dietitian who is currently six months pregnant. The family remains unsettled and hopes that forthcoming medical assessments will reveal what transpired during the 24 days he was unaccounted for.
