Kargil Bypass Bridge Officially Named in Honor of Captain Anuj Nayyar, MVC

A formal ceremony was conducted to name the newly constructed Kargil Bypass Bridge, now officially called the ‘Captain Anuj Nayyar, Maha Vir Chakra Setu’. This event, organized by the Indian Army, honored the bravery of Captain Anuj Nayyar and the soldiers of the 17 JAT Battalion, as well as acknowledged the unwavering support from the local community in Kargil.
Captain Anuj Nayyar was posthumously honored with the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest military award for bravery, due to his heroic actions in capturing the Pimple Complex on the western slopes of Point 4875 in the Mushkoh Valley during the 1999 Operation Vijay.

The naming ceremony saw attendance from Captain Nayyar’s mother, Meena Nayyar, his younger brother Karan Nayyar, other family guests, members of the 17 JAT Battalion, and civil dignitaries. During the event, Meena and Karan Nayyar unveiled a commemorative plaque.
In a heartfelt speech, Meena Nayyar remembered her son's valor and expressed her appreciation for the decision to permanently associate his name with the land where he made the ultimate sacrifice.
This newly designated bridge will function as an essential bypass to Kargil town, enhancing traffic management and connectivity on National Highway 1-D, which is crucial for both civilian transportation and military operations in the area.
