Kalyani Strategic Systems Secures ₹250 Crore Defence Contracts to Enhance India's Maritime Security
Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), a subsidiary of Bharat Forge Limited, has received significant defence contracts exceeding ₹250 crore from India's Ministry of Defence. These contracts pertain to the provision of sophisticated underwater systems, marking a strategic advancement in the country's maritime defence capabilities.
The contracts, finalized on November 10, 2025, were procured through the Fast Track Procurement (FTP) route and are aimed at bolstering India’s underwater warfare and maritime surveillance strengths. The agreement stipulates that delivery of these systems should occur within the next year, highlighting the government's trust in KSSL's swift implementation and technological prowess.
These underwater systems are anticipated to significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities in maritime domain awareness, mine countermeasure operations, and underwater reconnaissance, thereby ensuring heightened security along India’s extensive coastline and critical sea lanes.
In the past five years, KSSL has positioned itself as a significant entity in underwater and unmanned defence technologies, already deploying autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for the Indian Navy. The newly acquired contracts further extend its role in India's naval modernization initiatives.
KSSL’s executives have reiterated their commitment to prioritizing the underwater domain. Beyond their established proficiency in naval guns and marine engineering systems, the company is concentrating on integrated underwater warfare technologies, advanced sonar systems, and pressure hull designs to meet the evolving requirements of the Indian Navy.
The efforts of KSSL are in alignment with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. By leveraging Bharat Forge’s strengths in metallurgy and systems integration, KSSL is delivering comprehensive indigenous solutions, thereby reducing reliance on imports and fostering India’s self-sufficiency in crucial defence technologies.
With advanced manufacturing facilities, KSSL employs digital engineering, rapid prototyping, and precision testing infrastructure to ensure timely deliveries while maintaining global standards of quality and safety.
The new contracts are expected to invigorate KSSL’s marine platforms division, potentially opening avenues for export partnerships and international collaborations in the underwater systems sector.
Kalyani Strategic Systems has already supplied various indigenous defence products, including artillery systems, armoured mobility solutions, and naval components, which are utilized by both Indian and international forces.
As the defence division of Bharat Forge, KSSL benefits from the parent company’s global manufacturing presence across India, Europe, and the US, allowing it to combine innovative material sciences with advanced design capabilities.
Through these recent contracts, KSSL underscores its pivotal role in fortifying India’s maritime security framework, supporting the Navy’s objectives of improved underwater domain awareness and indigenous technological supremacy.
Adhering to a strict delivery schedule and leveraging proven engineering expertise, KSSL's accomplishments mark a significant step towards achieving a self-reliant, secure, and technologically advanced maritime future for India.
