JAK RIF Regimental Centre Holds Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Tree Plantation Drive in Jabalpur
The Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regimental Centre in Jabalpur has carried out a tree plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, turning an environmental activity into a tribute to motherhood. Serving personnel and their families joined the initiative, which linked sapling plantation with the idea of honouring mothers while also strengthening awareness about ecological conservation.
Held under the theme “Honouring Mothers, Nurturing Nature,” the drive brought together officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Other Ranks and family members within the premises of the Regimental Centre. Each sapling planted during the event was dedicated to a mother, giving the exercise a personal and emotional dimension in addition to its environmental purpose.
The campaign rested on a simple message: just as mothers nurture and protect their children, trees support and protect life by sustaining the environment for generations. By linking plantation with a tribute to mothers, participants were encouraged to see environmental responsibility not as a routine institutional task, but as something rooted in gratitude, affection and long-term care.
The participation of personnel across ranks, along with their families, gave the event a collective character. It was not limited to a formal plantation ceremony, but brought the Army fraternity together around a shared commitment to greener surroundings and environmental stewardship.

The drive was part of the wider “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which promotes tree plantation in honour of mothers while also contributing to ecological conservation. The idea behind the campaign is to build a deeper sense of responsibility towards the trees planted by connecting them to a meaningful personal relationship.
At the JAK RIF Regimental Centre, the plantation effort added to the green ecosystem within the military establishment and reinforced the importance of increasing green cover. Such drives are intended not only to beautify surroundings, but also to create lasting environmental benefits.
Tree plantation initiatives can help improve local biodiversity, reduce soil degradation, support cleaner air and create healthier surroundings. Their impact, however, depends on the continued care of the saplings after they are planted, so that plantation drives translate into mature trees and sustainable ecological gains.
The involvement of military families added another layer to the initiative. Children and younger members of the Army community who took part in or witnessed the plantation drive were exposed to the idea that environmental responsibility is not only an institutional duty, but also a personal commitment that can be carried into daily life.
The Indian Army has often incorporated environmental conservation into activities across its military stations and establishments. Such efforts are especially relevant in military communities, where large residential and training areas can benefit from sustained plantation and conservation work that helps preserve local ecosystems.
For those who participated in Jabalpur, the saplings had a more intimate meaning as well. Each tree was a living tribute to a mother and a reminder of the values commonly associated with motherhood — care, sacrifice, protection and nurturing.
As the saplings grow within the JAK RIF Regimental Centre in the coming years, they will continue to reflect both the personal sentiment behind the plantation and the Army fraternity’s wider commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
Through the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, the JAK RIF Regimental Centre showed how a simple act of planting trees can honour family bonds, build environmental consciousness and encourage future generations to value and protect nature.
