ITBP Promotes DIG Rajesh Sharma to IG at New Delhi Ceremony, DG Shatrujeet Kapur Pins Rank

New Delhi, October 9, 2026: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rajesh Sharma of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has been promoted to the rank of Inspector General (IG), with the promotion formally marked at a pipping ceremony held on Friday at the ITBP Force Headquarters.

The ceremony was presided over by Shatrujeet Kapur, IPS, Director General of the ITBP, who personally adorned the newly promoted officer with his rank insignia. Sharma’s spouse also took part in the event and joined the Director General in pinning the new rank on the officer’s uniform.

The Director General congratulated IG Rajesh Sharma on the promotion and extended his best wishes as he takes on new responsibilities and continues his service in the force.

The pipping ceremony recognised Sharma’s elevation to a senior leadership position within the ITBP. As an Inspector General, the officer will now carry responsibilities that include operational supervision, administrative leadership and coordination of force activities.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police is one of India’s Central Armed Police Forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is primarily responsible for guarding the India-China border and operates in some of the country’s most demanding high-altitude terrain, including remote Himalayan regions.

Besides border security duties, ITBP personnel are also deployed for internal security tasks, disaster response, election security and other assignments entrusted to the force.

With the promotion, Rajesh Sharma moves into a higher leadership role in an organisation that operates across some of India’s most challenging security environments.
