India's Defence Ministry Sanctions ₹1.05 Lakh Crore for Indigenous Military Acquisitions

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has given the green light to Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals totaling over ₹1.05 lakh crore. These approvals, categorized under ‘Buy (Indian–IDDM)’, are a significant step forward in boosting indigenous defence production as part of the Make in India initiative.
The Ministry of Defence revealed that the sanctioned proposals encompass Armoured Recovery Vehicles, Electronic Warfare Systems, Integrated Common Inventory Management Systems for the Tri-Services, and advanced Surface-to-Air Missiles. These acquisitions are designed to upgrade the mobility, air defence capabilities, and logistical operations of the Indian Armed Forces.
For the Indian Navy, the DAC has sanctioned the purchase of Moored Mines, Mine Counter Measure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mounts, and Submersible Autonomous Vessels. These procurements aim to enhance maritime security and address underwater threats to both naval and commercial vessels.
The ministry highlighted that all the proposals received approval under the Buy (Indian–IDDM) category, guaranteeing substantial involvement of Indian vendors. This strategy is intended to strengthen self-reliance in defence manufacturing, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Officials pointed out that these approved projects are expected to satisfy strategic requirements while also fostering job creation and technological advancements within the domestic defence industry.
