Indian Navy Set to Commission INS Aridhaman, Third Indigenous Nuclear Submarine
The Indian Navy is preparing to commission INS Aridhaman, the country's third nuclear-powered submarine constructed domestically. This announcement was made by Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. Currently in the final phase of trials, the submarine is anticipated to significantly boost India's underwater strike capabilities and durability, thereby enhancing the nation's nuclear deterrence strategy.
INS Aridhaman is outfitted to carry missiles with a longer range, expanding the Navy's strategic capabilities. Its commissioning represents a critical step in India's goal of achieving self-sufficiency in defense technology and building a sophisticated submarine fleet. Admiral Tripathi also mentioned ongoing efforts to integrate women submariners into the Indian Navy, demonstrating the service's dedication to inclusivity.
The entry of INS Aridhaman into service follows the induction of INS Arighaat, the second Arihant-class submarine, on August 29, 2024, in Visakhapatnam. These submarines have been created using cutting-edge design and manufacturing techniques, specialized materials, complex engineering, and extensive research and development.
Admiral Tripathi also remarked that since the last Navy Day, the Navy has commissioned 12 warships, including INS Vaghsheer and INS Uday Giri, which is the 100th indigenously designed warship by the Warship Design Bureau. These advancements highlight India's increasing maritime self-dependence and operational preparedness.
