Indian Navy Officer Arrested Over Allegations of Espionage for Pakistan's ISI
Indian security forces have detained a member of the Indian Navy accused of espionage activities allegedly connected to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrest followed intelligence reports indicating that the individual was leaking critical defense information to contacts abroad.
The suspect, identified as Adarsh Kumar from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, was stationed at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, Kerala. Investigators claim he maintained communications with an ISI agent in Pakistan and was found to have transferred funds from his bank account to this contact.
The investigation began when the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) received alerts about espionage involving the naval officer. This prompted surveillance measures, leading to the suspect's detention for further interrogation.
Officials reportedly found that the accused had allegedly shared images of naval warships and sensitive installations with entities linked to Pakistani intelligence. The materials are suspected to comprise strategically critical naval data, heightening security breach concerns.
Post-arrest, the suspect was presented in court and placed in custody as the investigation continues. Security agencies are assessing the scope of the leaked information and seeking to determine if other individuals are part of the alleged espionage ring.
The ongoing probe includes scrutinizing communication logs, financial dealings, and digital equipment to uncover any connections with foreign intelligence agents. Further information is anticipated as the investigation advances.
