Indian Navy Inaugurates Advanced 'Trinetra' Weapon Testing Facility Near Visakhapatnam

The Indian Navy has inaugurated an advanced static firing facility named “Trinetra” at Naval Station Bheemunipatnam near Visakhapatnam. The facility was officially opened on October 8, 2025, by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, who serves as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command.

Trinetra, which has been designed and developed domestically, represents a significant advancement towards self-reliance in the realm of testing, evaluating, and extending the life of naval weapon systems. This development aims to reduce the Indian Navy's reliance on foreign original equipment manufacturers by allowing them to independently evaluate the performance and operational sustainability of their armaments.

The facility is primarily tasked with conducting scientific evaluations of naval weapon systems, which include missiles, rockets, and related platforms. By monitoring and recording essential performance parameters during tests, Trinetra is expected to significantly boost weapon reliability, precision, and readiness for operational deployment.

The commissioning of Trinetra marks a pivotal development in India's indigenous naval weapons infrastructure, underscoring the Navy's commitment to maintaining high operational capabilities and combat readiness. This facility enhances the Navy's capacity to perform rigorous testing, evaluation, and life-extension of weapons, ensuring the sustained effectiveness of its arsenal.

With the establishment of this facility, the Indian Navy is poised to maintain a technological edge in maritime defense, thereby improving its readiness to face evolving security challenges in the Indian Ocean Region and beyond.

Dear Sir, Thank you for following a decentralized approach to development.
Visakhapatnam is developing like the Mumbai of the east. It is one of the
fastest growing cities in India. It is becoming the economic engine of the
entire country. It is also getting an international airport.
In order to manage this development, Vizag desperately needs a new
satellite city spread over at least one hundred square kilometers. We ideally
need two cities, one to the north where the international airport is coming up,
and one to the south. I suggest this be planned in stages, and government land
be utilized for this purpose. There is also a need for a six lane coastal expressway
between Visakhapatnam and Kakinada. Put pressure on the central government to
take it up.
